Whether you’re playing chess or ping pong, Doom or Magic: The Gathering, best choice TV, players want to play. But when the tournament’s been going on for most of a day, when do you find a spot to take a breather and let your mind relax for a bit? Well, every tournament is different, but each one has an opportunity for breaks. This could be something simple, such as a lunch time when there’s no game going on, or there could be several, smaller breaks staggered throughout the day.You can find a quick rundown here You have to remember that there are a lot of people at a tournament for any game, from players to coaches, from spectators to judges and staff, and they all need a breather every now and again. When breaks are will depend on the tournament rules, and those rules are made based on what’s being played, by who and how. Games where players sit down, or where there is more mental than physical effort, tend to go on longer between breaks than more physical games tend to do.

Arena – Where Online Gaming Met Television

December 13th, 2012 admin

Back in the day, when G4TV was an actual gaming channel, you used to be able to catch a program called Arena. For those of you who don’t know, G4TV was a channel you could get through services like DirectSpecialTV.com/, that featured nothing but video game-centric television.

In Arena, online players would fight against one another in popular online video games in a show that culminated with the last man standing being the champ. It was a great way for gamers to show off their skills and a great advertising platform for game developers.

Hosted by Wil Wheaton of Star Trek fame, it was the ultimate geek gathering, but what few people understand was that the producer of the show hated geeks and geek culture. The show was an attempt to bring gaming out of the perceived-negative geekdom and many poor decisions were made.

Wil was treated horribly and gamers were often compensated with free pizza “and a chance to be on TV.” It eventually got so bad that the producer couldn’t find gamers to be on the show. Let’s think about that: The producer couldn’t find people to do what they love on television.

It’s no wonder the show was cancelled, but not before leaving a nasty taste in the mouth of gamers and hobbyists everywhere.
